Exercise regimen for weight loss in PCOS

Exercise is an important part of caring for yourself if you have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). Women with PCOS are at greater risk for heart disease and diabetes conditions.  However, diet and exercise can be extremely helpful in treating the symptoms so you can lead a healthy, happy and fertile life.

So, let’s take a look at the 4 workouts you need to get to for PCOS.

  1. Cardio

Try and include moderate exercises like brisk walking, jogging, cycling or swimming to help tackle symptoms of PCOS. These exercises increase your body’s response to insulin, reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes. Just remember to be regular and consistent.

  1. Strength training workouts

Strength intensive and weight training exercises are extremely good and scientifically proven to improve women’s health. Besides making you stronger, weight training is necessary to strengthen your bones and muscles and create a more toned look.

  1. High-intensity interval training

It’s really not about exercising for too long, but doing it the right way. High-intensity interval training is good for increasing cardiovascular fitness and decreasing waist circumference. It’s a time efficient way of boosting your cardiovascular fitness, with extra benefits for PCOS. Going hard on the spin bike burns bucket-loads of calories, and reduces abdominal fat more effectively

  1. Mind-body exercises

Studies show that women with PCOS have an enhanced bodily response to stress and distress. Mind-body exercises like yoga, Pilates, and tai chi can help not only burn calories, but also reduce stress levels that worsen your PCOS symptoms.

Given that physical activity can make such a great deal of difference to your symptoms with PCOS and manage weight, make sure that you do it pretty regularly.

Trying for a baby? Here are foods to boost your fertility.

Studies have established a connection between dietary intake and fertility. The foods you eat, along with other factors like lifestyle and stress levels, can enhance fertility through their impact on your gut, blood flow, hormone levels and overall health. Consuming a diet rich in protein and vitamins can increase your chances of getting pregnant.

As a general rule, two factors related to diet – nutrition and a healthy body weight – play a key role in a couple’s ability to get pregnant.

  • Fresh fruits and veggies

A healthy diet loaded with fresh fruits, vegetables, and foods like beetroot, capsicum etc. is beneficial in boosting fertility. Green leafy vegetables contain a lot of iron, which is an essential factor in helping couples be more fertile. It was found that women who consumed fruits three times or more a day conceived half a month faster than women who had a lower intake of fruits – say once or twice a month.

  • Citrus Fruits

Citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits some of the best sources for vitamin C. Grapefruits and oranges contain the polyamine putrescine, which some animal research has associated with the potential to improve egg and semen health.

  • Garlic

Garlic is a fertility boosting spice and is augmented by the presence of antioxidant, selenium. It maintains the Estrogen balance in the body and thus supports fertility.

  • Increase protein intake

Try to increase the protein intake by eating a high-protein diet that consists of sprouted beans, soybeans, paneer, dal, beans, egg whites, fish, and chicken. This balanced diet will help the couple to get all the essential vitamins, antioxidants and minerals naturally.

  • Nuts and dry fruits

Dried fruits and nuts are a great source of protein, vitamins and minerals. Nuts have high quantities of selenium, a mineral that declines chromosomal damage in eggs. This shall definitely help in boosting fertility levels as the damage shall be reduced due to the presence of selenium.

  • Dairy products

Rich in calcium, good fats, and vitamin D, the dairy products are an essential food for improving fertility in couples who want to conceive faster.

  • Bananas

Bananas are rich in Vitamin B6 and help in the formation of a zygote by regulating the hormones involved in the ovulation process.

  • Sunflower Seeds

Eating sunflower seeds is an easy way to help maintain proper sperm levels without making any huge dietary changes. Roasted, unsalted sunflower seed kernels are rich in Vitamin E, an essential nutrient that increases sperm count and motility.

These are some of the foods that increases your fertility. A healthy diet should also go hand in hand with a moderately rigorous exercise regime. Women who are trying to conceive should keep themselves active.

Natural Ways to Boost fertility

Fertility issues affect more than 15 percent of couples. It has become a major issue in the modern world. Luckily, there are natural fertility boosters that can help you get pregnant faster. The benefits of living a healthy lifestyle are huge and long lasting. Here are a few ways to boost your fertility naturally and improving your chances of getting pregnant.

  • Eat Antioxidant-rich Foods

Antioxidants like folate and zinc may improve fertility for both men and women. It neutralizes the free radicals in your body, which can damage both sperm and egg cells.

If you want to boost your fertility, try to include more fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts in your diet that are naturally packed full of good antioxidants such as vitamins E and C, beta-carotene, lutein, and folate.

  • Eat a healthy and large Breakfast

Eating a big and healthy breakfast has been found to benefit women improve fertility problems. Researches has been proved that having a larger breakfast, instead of a considerable dinner, can help boost ovulation for 30%.

  • Avoid trans fats in your diet

If you’re trying to get pregnant you should avoid trans fats altogether. Trans fats can negatively impact ovulation levels. Trans fats are present in some fried foods, processed products and baked goods. So maintain a healthy diet for improving your ovulation levels.

  • Reduce your carb intake or Choose it wisely

Two main thing you should take care while eating carb food is the number of carbs you eat on the overall and the type of carbs you consume every day. Having a low-carb diet can help improve hormone levels in women with PCOS while avoiding refined carbs can increase your chances to get pregnant.

  • Eat More Fiber & Protein Rich Food

Increasing your fiber intake while you’re trying to conceive may significantly improve your chances of it. Vegetable protein sources such as beans, seeds, and nuts have been found to improve women’s chances of becoming pregnant faster.

  • Physically Active

Being obese or overweight can really impact your possibilities to conceive. Besides being good for your overall health, regular and moderate exercising can help you achieve a normal weight and increase chances for pregnancy.

  • Reduce Stress – Take time for yourself each day to relax, whether that’s going for a walk, taking a long bath, or incorporating yoga or meditation into your daily routine.

  • Limit Alcohol – Drinking can increase your risks of miscarriage and effect quality sperm, so while you’re trying to get pregnant, be sure to drink in moderation.

  • Reduce your Caffeine Intake – Caffeine can negatively affect female fertility. The recommended dose of caffeine is 200mg a day. A high caffeine intake before pregnancy is also linked to an increased risk of miscarriage.

  • Get Good Sleep and relax yourself – To improve your chances of getting pregnant you need to keep yourself as healthy and happy as possible and that includes getting enough sleep. Sleep is essential to your mental and physical wellbeing.

If you’ve been trying for a baby for a while with no success don’t worry. You’re not alone. With the right help and support you can fast-track your journey to parenthood.

𝗛𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗮

𝗛𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗮 is a rare inherited neurodegenerative disease affecting the bases of DNA in the HTT gene of humans. It is inherited as an autosomal dominant form which has a 50% chance of being passed on to children if one parent carries a copy of the defective HD gene.HTT disease affects adults and its prevalence. In India is between three to seven affected among 1 lakh people. The effect of the disease is such that the affected person usually dies within 15-20 years. Lack of awareness and no testing strategies increases the social burden. Prenatal diagnosis of HT disease becomes challenging when fetus is found to be affected and parents are left with only option of either termination or delivery a child with the struggling disease. At Argenomics , a renowned PGT Lab in Kerala and pioneers in dealing with monogene defects with greater success, we have developed first time in India haplotyping technology with our expertise to detect the HTT gene defect in embryo stage itself. After the in vitro fertilization technique embryos obtained undergoes PGT M (preimplantation genetic testing) to check the defective gene status. The present case was referred to us where mother had the HTT gene defect inherited from her father. The physical condition was not so favoring for her hence family decided that her own mother would be her surrogate. So embryos obtained from the patient herself (10 tested) were tested for the defective gene (3 embryos were found normal) and one single normal embryo in the first attempt gave rise to a healthy baby birth at our hospital. This case was challenging as developing a PGT m assay for rare disease was challenging. In conclusion treatment of such genetic diseases becomes challenging and this increases social burden. Hence employing high end technologies and expertise can help prevent genetic conditions to reoccur in family and make a healthy gene pool for our future generations and country.

Are you attracted towards the low-cost injections?
Here are some hidden proven facts that you must understand

  • Injections must be transported and stored in a Specific Temperature

Couple carriers for the Citrulinemia gene delivers a healthy baby after PGT-M

They lost a previous child affected with the condition and wanted a healthy baby.

Disease free embryos were carefully picked and transferred. Embryo details: Two normal embryos obtained. One single attempt of transfer resulted in healthy pregnancy

Author: Dr. Ritu Hari

Couple XY, (35 year old female, 38 year old male, MF- 6 years), both heterozygous for XP , came for genetic evaluation. They had a history of consanguineous marriage. Patient P1L1A1 , first pregnancy was spontaneously conceived, outcome was a male baby with FTVD ,I year after birth , baby developed skin pigmentation & photophobia. Now the baby is 5 year old. Second pregnancy was also spontaneously conceived in 2017, it was a twin pregnancy with DCDA twins, prenatal testing was done at Amrita institute, Cochin, & both fetuses were found homozygous for XPC gene, most common gene for XP, Hence MTP was done at 5 months. Couple was also evaluated at the same time, both were detected to be heterozygous variants for XP. Couple came to craft hospital for an opinion. After a thorough discussion with geneticist , plan for ICSI +PGT-M+Frozen ET was made. Pre PGD work up was done. Targeted variant analysis of selected XPC gene was done by PCR using customized primers & by bidirectional Sanger sequencing. Patient herself was a case of Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR) hence plan for oocyte accumulation done. COS outcomes (diag).First ICSI was done in June 2019, through which 10 embryos were formed , which included 4 Day 3, 5 Day 5 & 1Day 6 embryo. The embryos were subjected to PGT-M in view of couple history of XP. Out of 10 embryos , 2 came out to be normal, 5 affected, 2 were carriers & 1 undiagnosed.

FET was done on 15 July 2020, 2 D5 embryos (1*2BA,1*2BC), one normal & other carrier was transferred as the couple insisted. Viability scan was done which showed a single alive I/U fetus of 6 weeks 4 days. At 13 weeks NT was done which was low risk, Pt was given option of Amniocentesis but couple refused, hence NIPT was done which was low risk. The couple delivered a healthy baby free from xeroderma pigmentosa mutation.

(Anovolation)

Infertility and Environment Pollution

Author: Dr. Sankalp Singh [Director, Reproductive Medicine Unit, ART Consultant MD, MRCOG (UK)]

In this world, most of us relate fertility as a gift of God.We try to find mythological reasons for this infertile condition for women or men. However, most of these women or men are not infertile by birth. Majority of infertile people acquire this condition during their development stages.  There are several factors that make a man or woman infertile. Some of the key external factors which deteriorate quality and quantity of eggs and sperms in male and female are food habits, use of cosmetics, type of clothing and style, nature of work, quality of water, air, sound pollution other environmentalfactors.

We may divide these into three major categories

a)    What we eat and drink as well as apply on our body (such as cream, soaps, shampoo, etc.)
b)    What we inhale , breath and the invisible rays which pass through our body generally categories as radiation
c)    What we think and do which is categorised asmental health during our life, which relate to stress, pressure, sleepdisorders, stretched working hours, anxiety, depression etc.

How it impacts fertility of person?

We eat and drink everything which normally certified as edible and naturally available on the surface of earth, however we are unaware of the chemical contents we consume along these food and drink and its impact on fertility. At the same time some of us knowingly consume substance like alcohol and tobacco which destroys potential for fertility.

What happens to our body when we eat and drink and how it affects fertility?

If we eat and drink food stuff which contains harmful chemicals, it can reduce the egg/sperm number as well as quality.

The chemicals reduce the normal hormone secretion from the brain.
Damage the eggs /sperms directly in the ovaries/testis by causing ovarian /testicular tissue damage due to inflammation.
Examples of such Food items are – food containing harmful preservatives, food items stored in plastic containers, hot food packed in plastic, aluminium sheets leading to leeching of chemicals etc.

Chemicals include: Bisphenol A in plastics, Phthalate esters in PVC pipes.

Action – they disrupt the endocrine (hormone) function. They are also known as endocrine disrupting chemicals.

What happens to our body, when we get exposed to air pollution, radiation, invisible rays and how it impacts our reproductive capabilities?

It leads to reduction in gamete quantity and quality.By increasing level of reactive oxygen species- a marker of inflammation in body. This leads to DNA damage in the gametes.

Also, it is a contributory factor for increasing the stress levels, Reduces follicular growth and ovulation. Reduces hormone production from the brain

We strain, stress and exerts extra load on our mind to succeed in academics, profession and life. How maintaining balance mental health helps fertility?

Brain is the master organ of the body. Any stress effects its functionality. Since the process of fertility depends on the hormones produces by the brain, fertility potential reduces when the brain malfunction.Stress Reduces secretion of Gonadotropin releasing hormone which is needed for production of gonadotropin hormones.

In Our daily practise we see number of patient who became obese, exposed to radiation, lived in high temperature environment, worked at oil fields, etc. etc.

We had a patient who worked as plant operator for an oil refinery in gulf. Due to high heat and pressure environment, He had extremely low sperm count. We suggested him a temporary change of atmosphere from plant to office job. His superior accepted his request and started working in office. He sperm count improved within a month and was able have a child of his own.

Junk food can easily make one obese.

Another patient of ours who was obese, weighing 95 KG was working in stressful IT sector. Her shift was from 4:00 to 11:00 AM which threw her out of her sleep cycle. Due to stress eating, she gained weight and had irregular ovulation. We suggested her to discontinue doing night shifts and work at stress-free environment to get enough sleep at night and a fertility friendly diet upon which she was able to bring downher weightto 84 KG and proper ovulation was restored. She was able to deliver a healthy child when she was relieved of her stress.

Post cancer treatment patients – have low egg number and have difficulty in having pregnancy. We have treated a lot of such patients successfully.

It is never late to adapt a healthy life style and improve our reproductive health; these are few tips which will help you improve your reproductive health.

  • Take plastics out of your life as much as possible.Don’t pack hot food in plastic containers.
  • Use steel bottles and containers.
  • Avoid using microwave.
  • Wash all vegetables and fruits properly before use – you can soak then in water mixed with baking soda for 30 min.
  • Avoid veggies and fruits which are coming from faraway places as they surely will have chemicals for the transit process.
  • Anything you apply over your skin – 60 % of it is going to get inside your body, so be careful and use only what’s needed rather than for fashion.
  • User landline more. Reduce internet usage.
  • Switch on Wi-Fi only when using rather than 24×7.
  • Do yoga/meditation or anything that can reduce your stress.
